The University Institute of Engineering Research of Aragon (I3A) in collaboration with the Chairs of Industrial Transformation and URBASER of Innovative Technologies announces grants for master students of the University of Zaragoza. Twelve young people can benefit from this call to carry out their internships at the I3A for five months, as part of their Master's Thesis.

Juan Pablo Martínez, a member of the Institute's management team, stresses that this initiative aims to enrich the students' academic and professional experience. "For many of them, the TFM is one of the most satisfying training periods, as it is where they have the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired during the degree to a specific problem".

The aim of this scholarship programme is to promote access to research for students with a high academic performance. For Martínez, the possibility of doing the internship in an I3A research group together with the Master's Thesis offers a plus to this experience, as students can carry out this work in a real environment. "The integration in a group, with other senior researchers and trainees, gives them a very rich perspective on this field."

The I3A offers a basic research training plan, centred on supervised work in one of the Institute's divisions: Biomedical, ICT, Industrial Technologies and Processes and Recycling. The training internships will allow them to enter the world of research, learn to plan activities in the field of R+D+i and carry out research work that can be continued with the development of the student's final master's thesis, together with a permanent member of the I3A.

The aim of the Institute is for students to cultivate the basic skills necessary for the world of research. "They learn about the research process, the planning of activities, analysis of results, scientific discussion, communication of results, etc., both on a day-to-day basis in the laboratory and in meetings with tutors and those responsible for the project".

Juan Pablo Martínez also shares examples of how this programme has had a positive impact in previous editions: "It has already happened several times that, thanks to this interaction in the work and dynamics of a research group, our students have discovered a vocation for research". In addition, he adds that the existence of scholarships funded by company Chairs also allows the opportunity for the work to be known first-hand by companies in the sector.

The scholarships have a maximum duration of five months, the selected persons will receive a gross remuneration of 750 euros per month and will have a dedication of 30 hours per week. To apply for one of them, it is necessary to be enrolled in a master's degree at the University of Zaragoza.

Applications can be submitted until 6 February at 14:00. The selection will be carried out by the I3A Research and Postgraduate Commission, in collaboration with the directors of the collaborating chairs.

This call is part of the I3A's Grants and Scholarships Programme. The aim of these initiatives is to awaken an interest in research among university students, so that they can get to know the scientific field in decent conditions, a professional option with a high added value both personally and in terms of their contributions to society.
