More tan 30 years of experience in food packaging interactions and food safety related to the packaging assess the knowledge and relevant achievemens of GUIA group. Migration tests and specific migration analysis, identifying every single compound released by the packaging materials, including oligomers, and quantifying them, are the main core of the GUIA research group. The team was pioner in the analysis and identification of Non Intentionally Added Substances (NIAS), which are nowadays one of the main subjects for laboratories involved in testing the food packaging, either from industry or private labs. We have developed many of the analytical procedures and tools for these studies and we started to work as well, some years ago, in collaboration with some industrial companies, under the frame of “safety by design”. The experience acquired working and investigating all items usually employed in the packaging, such as any material in contact with food, either virgin or recycled, such as all plastics/polymers, paper and board, silicones, elastomers, adhesives, varnishes, printing inks, metals, etc. together with the analytical developments and advanced high top instrumental tools make the GUIA group one of the most named and considered in Europe this subject.
