VALEO TERMICO S.A., fully in line with the continuous innovation of vehicle manufacturers and the gradual introduction of legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the automotive sector, has seen the need to innovate its products and manufacturing processes and develop and implement process control systems that allow 100% guarantee the quality of its products, the heat exchangers. This is done to offer them to their customers, automobile manufacturers worldwide, in a short time, with zero defects and lower costs than its competitors.

The Manufacturing Engineering and Advanced Metrology Group (GIFMA), which belongs to the University of Zaragoza, has collaborated over the years with this company and its suppliers in the research and development of the best geometric measurement procedures that suit their technological needs. As a result, different 3D optical measurement systems have been developed that allow 100% in process verification of complex geometry products, even with the possibility to adapt very quickly to new models of heat exchangers and EGRs (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). These systems are based on the use of structured laser light and industrial vision analysis software systems which are able to combine high accuracy (even in workshop environments) and measurement speed with a very low cost.

This is an original contribution that has adapted to business with their impact on competitiveness realistically optimizing their processes and solving the problem of integrated quality control in the production process.
