At Built4Life Lab, we regard research as an essential element of architecture, as any transformation of the built environment has a direct impact on the environment, people’s quality of life and society. This requires us to develop responses – drawing on both scientific and creative knowledge – that are capable of anticipating and adapting to a context of constant transformation characterised by new social, environmental and technological challenges.
Environmental and social sustainability therefore forms the main framework for our research, in response to contemporary challenges such as climate change, access to decent and affordable housing, sustainable resource management, the energy transition, demographic changes and the building of inclusive, accessible and safe communities. From a theoretical perspective, these challenges are linked to posthumanist approaches based on care, interdependence and shared responsibility towards the built and natural environment.
The group pursues two main lines of research and a third cross-cutting line, arising from the intersection between the two.
